We often use sports as a metaphor for life. Overall, sports often package life's lessons into neat 60-minute games or into perfect sound bites that summarize to achieve at a high level.

The much awaited Annual Sports Day was held on Saturday, 25th January 2020, with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere. Mr Bala Roshan and Ms Diana Gloria were the host for the programme Dr. H S Krishna Kumar, Assistant Director, Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore, was the chief guest for the day and the program was preceded over by Rev Fr Joseph Dsouza, Secretary, Hassan Jesuit Educational Society. The chief guest and other dignitaries, hoisted the flag signalling the start of the Sports Meet.

The drum beats rolled, the band stroked and high pitched voice issued a command. The synchronised swing of arms and the sound of thudding feet stirred something within us. Eight classes marched thier way out on themes like right to education, climate crisis, peace and harmony, forest fires, save wildlife, equality to success, shoot for the stars and say no to over addiction of social media. It was a wonderful sight to see students dressed according to the themes chosen by them. Teams were introduced by Ms Surabhi and Mr Suhas Kowshik.

An Olympic lamp was lit to ignite the passion of sports spirit, knowledge and life. The Director of SJC Hassan, Rev Fr Roshan David Periera administered the oath taking ceremony to show our determination and commitment. Ms Aisiri and team invoked the blessings of the almighty through a prayer song. Red carpet welcome was extended to the dignitaries by Mr Chetan.

Chief Guest, Dr H S Krishna Kumar then addressed the gathering. He wished the participants good luck for the upcoming events. He was very happy to witness the march past as each class marched on a particular theme and was glad that students are trying to raise thier voices against the social issues.

Three students Mr Afnan Sheriff, Mr Niranjan and Mr Shashank M, who represented the college at the University were felicitated. The annual sports meet 2020 was declared open by the chief guest as he released the balloons in the air with the intention of wishing students good luck to reach out for thier goals.

The President, Rev Fr Joseph's Dsouza then took turn to address the gathering and expressed his excitement for the wonderful march that was conducted and wished the participants good luck for the upcoming events.

The formal programme came to an end with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms Sarala Prasanna.

The ground was now open for various events
