St Joseph’s College, Hassan, celebrated the 70th Kannada Rajyotsava with great
enthusiasm and cultural splendour. The campus was vibrant with the colours of Karnataka
and the spirit of Kannada pride.
The Chief Guest, Fr Prashanth Madtha SJ—noted Kannada literary figure, educationist, and
recipient of the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award 2024—addressed the gathering with an
inspiring message on cultivating discipline and reverence in life. Drawing from the rich
heritage of Kannada literature, he encouraged the audience to cherish and uphold the values
and wisdom embedded in the works of great poets and writers who have shaped Karnataka’s
identity.
Fr Maxim Dias SJ, Principal of the college, and Fr Leo Pereira SJ, Superior of St Joseph’s
Institutions, Hassan, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of preserving
cultural identity while striving for excellence in education.
The celebrations were meticulously organized by the faculty members - Mr Range Gowda,
Mr Mohan A, Ms Monika S.V., and the Kannada Sangha, who curated a day-long series of
events that showcased the talents of students. Competitions in speech, essay writing, reel
making, group and solo singing, dance, poetry, drawing, and sketching brought out the
creative spirit of the participants.
Adding to the festive mood, a chariot procession was held from the college premises to the
Arasikere–Hassan road, symbolizing unity, pride, and devotion to the land and language of
Karnataka.
The event was a fitting tribute to the glorious legacy of Kannada and a reflection of SJC
Hassan’s commitment to promoting culture, language, and learning.
The event took place on 07 November 2025.
