St. Joseph’s College, Hassan, inaugurated the new academic year with a two-day orientation
programme for faculty members. The sessions were thoughtfully curated to align with the
institution’s mission of holistic education rooted in Jesuit values.
The programme commenced with a session on Group Dynamics by Fr Lancy Fernandes, SJ,
highlighting the importance of collaboration and synergy in academic settings. This was
followed by Fr Olvin Veigas leading a session on Leadership and Management in a Changing
Context, encouraging faculty to reflect on adaptive leadership in a rapidly evolving
educational landscape.
Fr Rayan Pereira, SJ shared insights on Jesuits and Their Philosophy, offering a deep dive into
the spiritual and educational heritage of the Society of Jesus. Later, Fr Olvin Veigas, SJ
returned to speak on Education and Entrepreneurship: Building Resilience in Education,
underlining the role of innovation and resilience in contemporary pedagogy.
Another important session on Emotional Management was conducted by Fr Lancy
Fernandes, SJ, focusing on emotional well-being and self-awareness, both essential for
effective teaching. Fr Maxim Dias, SJ, Principal of SJC Hassan, concluded the series with an
insightful session on the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm, emphasizing reflection, context,
and experience in the learning process.
In the afternoon sessions, faculty members collaboratively planned the academic calendar,
mapped out activities for various clubs and student associations, and distributed
responsibilities for the upcoming year.
The orientation fostered a spirit of collaboration, reflection, and renewed commitment to
the mission of Jesuit education, setting a positive tone for the academic year ahead.
